Mobile, Alabama - Mardi Gras Celebrations

The first known American Mardi Gras celebration took place in Mobile, Alabama in the year 1703. Today Mobile's celebrations, unlike many celebrations in other cities, are family friendly with fun for all ages. The celebrations continue for weeks featuring many unique Mardi Gras parades in downtown Mobile Bay and on Dauphin Island. Spectators come from near and far, each hoping to catch some trinkets, beads, candy or moon pies. The festivities culminate on the Monday and Tuesday (Fat Tuesday) before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent.

The Mississippi Gulf Coast - Mardi Gras Celebrations

The Mississippi Gulf Coast, including Biloxi, Gulfport, Pass Christian and other towns and communities, celebrates Mardi Gras with more than 20 festive parades, an array of Mardi Gras balls and more. The Mississippi Gulf Coast Mardi Gras season lasts for more than three weeks, leading up to Fat Tuesday with most parades and events taking place during the weekends.

Baton Rouge, Louisiana - Mardi Gras Celebrations

Pink Flamingos featured in Spanish Town's Mardi Gras Parade, echo the community's affinity for them.
Baton Rouge, Louisiana celebrates Mardi Gras with several nighttime and daytime parades, including one for the dogs. There is also an annual Mardi Gras Mambo 10K Run. One of the most unique Baton Rouge parades, the Spanish Town Parade, features pink flamingos, a decorated Lawnmower Brigade and much more in the city's oldest and possibly quirkiest neighborhood.
