The Boeing Aviation Hangar at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center contains the largest aircraft in the National Air and Space Museum collection.

Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center Highlights:

The companion museum to the National Air and Space Museum on the National Mall, the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is located in a large aviation hanger, providing additional display space for thousands of the museum's artifacts.

Among the many aircraft exhibits, visitors will find such history making icons as the space shuttle Enterprise and the Enola Gay. Flight simulators and an IMAX Theater add to the fun. The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center opened in December 2003.

Visitor Information:

  • Location: The museum is located in Northern Virginia near Washington Dulles International Airport. The main entrance is from route 28, approximately one half of a mile north of route 50.

  • Admission: Admission is free, however, there are admission fees for IMAX films, simulators, and some special programs.

  • Hours: 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. daily. (Summer hours may be extended.)

  • Closed: Closed Dec. 25.

Transportation from Dulles International Airport:

  • The Udvar-Hazy Center is located about 2.5 miles from the Washington Dulles International Airport terminal. Taxi service is available to the museum with rates averaging around $8 - $12.

  • Virginia Regional Transit (VRTA) provides connecting bus service between Dulles International Airport, Dulles Town Center and the Udvar-Hazy Center. Free transfers from other VRTA routes that transit the Dulles Town Center are available. Schedules, fares and information are available on the VRTA Web Site.

Parking:

The center's parking lot can accommodate 2,000 vehicles. Public parking is $15, subject to change.

Accessibility:

There are access ramps and elevators at the museum. The theaters are wheelchair accessible and most shows offer audio descriptions and/or closed captioning. Wheelchairs are available with valid identification.

Restaurants and Shopping:

There is a public dining area located at the museum. Shoppers will find a museum store and mobile store kiosks.

Driving Directions:

  • From D.C. and points south: I-66 West to Route 28 North - (Exit 53B) - Travel on Route 28 North for 5.3 miles. Exit at Air and Space Parkway and follow the signs to the Udvar-Hazy Center.

  • From D.C. and points north: I-495 West to the Dulles Toll Road West (Route 267). Exit the toll road at Route 28 South (Exit 9A) and travel south 3.5 miles. Exit at Air and Space Parkway and follow the signs to the Center.

  • From points west of D.C.: Take I-66, Route 29 or Route 50 East to Route 28 North.

Special Note:

The floor of the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is concrete. Visitors are advised to wear comfortable shoes.
