Thursday, September 25, 2008 - The owner of Hard Rock Park filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Wednesday and the park will be closed for the rest of the season, a company spokesman said.
The announcement on the Park's web site includes the following statement: ...Regretfully, Hard Rock Park has closed for the remainder of the 2008 season to allow management to focus on restructuring efforts. Following the completion of this process, Hard Rock Park intends to re-open for the 2009 season and we invite everyone back next year to continue the fun...
Hard Rock Park Description:
The world's first rock and roll theme park and the first newly built major attraction in the United States in almost ten years, Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina opened to great fanfare in April of 2008 and closed with a resounding thud when the former owners declared bankruptcy before the end of the season.
The Six Themed Areas:
The park design featured six themed areas, each creating a unique environment consisting of rides, shows, restaurants, shops, and more. Each of the six themed areas represented a specific music genre as follows:
- All Access Entry Plaza – Retail stores in clustered plazas that were designed to reflect the feeling of traveling along America's famous Route 66.
- Rock and Roll Heaven – Designed to celebrate some of the greatest legends of rock and roll
- British Invasion – Designed to feature the look and feel of London in celebration of rock and roll English style
- Lost in the 70’s – A large indoor mall that recalled the 70's blend of Punk, Disco and Glam
- Born in the USA – A salute to the birthplace and diverse styles of Rock
- Cool Country – Designed to celebrate the distinctively American style of country its enduring popularity, especially in the Southern states
