Tennessee Sales Tax Holidays

2008 Sales Tax Holiday - Friday, August 1 at 12:01 a.m. - Sunday, August 3 at 11:59 p.m. - 3 days

The annual Tennessee Sales Tax Holiday starts each year at 12:01 a.m. on the first Friday in August and ends at 11:59 p.m. on the following Sunday.

Special Spring Sales Tax Holiday - For 2008, there is a special one-time holiday, from April 25 at 12:01 a.m. through April 27 at 11:59 p.m. If an item is tax exempt, anyone may make the purchase tax–free.

Tax exempt items during the Sales Tax Holiday include:

  • Clothing, footwear, and school supplies (not including art supplies) - $100 or Less, per item

  • Computers - $1,500 or less per item and not for use in a trade or business
Some examples of items that are not covered by the Tennessee exemption and will be subject to the applicable tax are clothing accessories such as jewelry and handbags, cosmetics, protective equipment, sports and recreational equipment, art supplies and computer supplies.
