Louisiana 2009 Hurricane Sales Tax Holiday: Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31

Specified emergency supplies may be purchased free of the four-percent state sales tax in preparation for the 2009 hurricane season, which begins on June 1. Act 429 of the 2007 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature provides for an annual state sales tax holiday on sales of hurricane-preparedness items or supplies made on the last Saturday and Sunday of each May. Louisiana 2009 August Sales Tax Holiday: 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 7, through 12 midnight on Saturday, August 8

The Louisiana Sales Tax Holiday provides an exemption from state sales tax on the first $2,500 of the purchase price of most individual items of tangible personal property for non-business use. The state sales tax is payable on the portion of the purchase price of any individual item in excess of $2,500. Exclusions include, but are not limited to, vehicles, most meals and taxable services.
