Georgia's Sweet Vidalia Onions

The springtime Vidalia Onion Festival celebrates the annual harvest of Georgia's official state vegetable, the sweet Vidalia Onion. The first Vidalia Onion Festival was organized in 1978 by local civic groups to promote the Vidalia Onion and raise funds for the community. Since its humble beginnings, the Vidalia Onion Festival has grown in popularity to attract as many as 75,000 visitors in recent years.

Onion lovers are able to enjoy freshly cooked Vidalia onion rings, an onion eating contest and onion cooking demonstrations. Other eagerly awaited Festival activities include a street dance, rodeo, children’s parade, fireworks, carnival rides, musical entertainment the Vidalia Onion Arts and Craft Festival and more. This year, there will be extreme street bike stunts, a professional monster truck team and Civil War reenactments to mention just a few of the fun events for spectators.

2012 Vidalia Onion Festival - Celebrating its 35th year, the 2012 Vidalia Onion Festival will be held April 26 - 29, 2012.
