The Colonial Williamsburg Courthouse of 1770 was the seat of local government and continued to house municipal and county courts until 1932. One of Williamsburg's original 18th-century buildings and a dominate feature of Market Square, the Courthouse is designed in a T-shape in the style of many other Virginia courthouses. Its formal design elements include arched windows, a cantilevered pediment and an octagonal cupola, which reinforce its official appearance.
