Adventure Activities and Attractions - Western North Carolina is home to many adventure activities and attractions for all levels of skill. During the making of the movie, several cast and crew members spent some down time zip lining, rock wall climbing and more. Here are a few fun things to consider adding to your Hunger Games themed getaway itinerary:
  • Ziplining and Canopy Adventures

    There are several zip lines and canopy tours in Western North Carolina. Some of the Tributes actors from The Hunger Games movie, including Josh Hutcherson (pictured above) who portrays Peeta Mellark and his girlfriend at that time, Vanessa Hudgens, zip lined at Navitat Canopy Adventures, located about 20 minutes north of downtown Asheville. Other fun choices include Asheville Zipline Canopy Adventures located just about one mile from downtown Asheville and Nantahala Gorge Canopy Tours, located about 75 miles from Asheville.

  • Wildwater Nantahala Adventure Center

    Located at the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park across the street from Nantahala Gorge Canopy Tours, the Wildwater Nantahala Adventure Center offers many adventure experiences including guided whitewater rafting, kayak rentals, jeep adventures and more.

  • The US National Whitewater Center

    Located about 13 miles from the center of Charlotte, North Carolina, the US National Whitewater Center features the world's largest man-made whitewater river and offers many outdoor activities. Water activities include whitewater rafting and kayaking, flatwater kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and other water sports. Land based adventures include rock climbing, mountain biking, an adventure course, zip lining, eco trekking and other options. Programs include survival school, adventure programs for kids and an array of outdoor activity instructions. In addition, a full schedule of special events includes festivals, competitions, seasonal Zipline & Dine, holiday themed events and more. It has been reported that Woody Harrelson, who portrays Haymitch Abernathy in the movie, tackled the 46-foot rock climbing wall during his stay in the Charlotte area during filming.
