Enjoy the great outdoors by foot, by boat, by duck (yes, by duck,) in the snow and more. Some of the popular outdoor attractions and recreational facilities include:
Summit Skyride - Transporting visitors to the top of the mountain, this popular high-speed Swiss cable car offers panoramic views on clear days of the Atlanta skyline and the Appalachian Mountains beyond. It also provides a great view of the
Confederate Memorial Carving -
See photo on page 1.
Hiking - There are 15 miles of hiking and walking nature trails through wooded areas and on the slope of the mountain. The 1.3
Walk-Up Trail leads to the top of the mountain, while the six-mile historic
Cherokee Trail winds along the base of the mountain. Other trails connect to a
Nature Garden and the
Songbird Habitat as well as to the picturesque century-old
Covered bridge and
Grist Mill areas.
Paddlewheel Riverboat - Enjoy a 20-minute cruise on a riverboat named (what else?) the
Scarlett OHara.
Pedal Boats - Head for the Riverboat Marina Complex and enjoy the lake by pedal boat.
Ride The Ducks - Tour land and lake in 1940's Army DUKWs that have been converted into comfortable open-air amphibious vehicles.
Golf Courses - Two championship courses,
Stonemont and
Lakemont, meander through a Georgia pine forest and around Stone Mountain Lake. There is also a 36-hole mini-golf course.
Tennis Center - The premier tennis facility features 16 hard lighted outdoor courts, and an 8,200-seat permanent stadium court.
Waterslide Complex - Across the lake from the other attractions, the
Waterslide Complex offers two inner tube slides and two enclosed body flume slides.
Fishing - Fishing is permitted in the 363-acre lake from 6 a.m. until midnight with a valid fishing license.
Winter Tubing - Fun in the snow at
