About the Kentucky State Fair:
The eleven-day Kentucky State Fair has been celebrating the history, heritage and culture of the Bluegrass State for over 100 years. The first Kentucky State Fair took place at Churchill Downs in 1902, while the Fair of today is held at the massive Kentucky Exposition Center, which features over one million square feet of indoor climate controlled exhibit space with indoor and outdoor exhibit space totaling 416 acres. The Kentucky State Fair attracts close to or more than 600,000 people annually, with 1994 holding the attendance record to date of just over 684,000 fair-goers.
Each year, the Worlds Championship Horse Show, the most prestigious saddlebred show in the world, is held during the Fair. The Kentucky State Fair and the Worlds Championship Horse Show are owned and produced by the Kentucky State Fair Board, an agency of the Kentucky Commerce Cabinet.
While the Kentucky State Fair of today continues its agricultural traditions, it has evolved to include other components including trade and public education expositions and a major entertainment venue. Featured exhibits and events include an array of rides, food, crafts, animals, competitions, music, games and entertainment.
Special exhibits showcase vendors, products and services, entertaining, interactive activities for children and educational exhibits. Main Street Kentucky highlights businesses from across Kentucky, while Heritage Hall appeals to seniors who are young at heart. Health Horizons features the latest information in health trends, while the Pride of the Counties exhibit area highlights the best of Kentucky.
Whether enjoying the bright lights and excitement of the Thrillway, leisurely browsing the array of exhibits in the air-conditioned exhibit halls, the competitive finesse of the Worlds Championship Horse Show or daily world class entertainment, the Kentucky State Fair offers memory-making fun for all ages.
