Apple Festivals in the Southeast continue throughout the month of October, offering great family fun, delicious treats and a chance to enjoy the picturesque countryside at the peak of the fall foliage season.

October Apple Festivals

  • Salem Apple Butter Festival
    Salem, West Virginia - October 1 - 4, 2009
    This eagerly awaited festival, held at Depot Park in downtown Salem, adjacent to the restored Salem Depot, features a large selection of arts, crafts, food vendors, quilt and apple butter judging, talent contests, a celebrity auction, auto show, petting zoo, bingo, pet parade, games for children and more.

  • Unicoi County Apple Festival
    Erwin, Tennessee - October 2 - 3, 2009
    An annual tradition for both local residents and visitors, more than 100,000 festival goers fill the streets of downtown Erwin during the first Friday and Saturday of October for entertainment on two stages, a nationally ranked crafts fair and delicious treats available from more than 300 vendors, contests and a bushel of down-home fellowship at the county's largest event.

  • Apple Pickin' Jubilee
    Ellijay, Georgia - October 2 - 31, 2009 weekends
    Pick your own apples, follow a nature trail filled with scenes from nursery rhymes and fairy tales, take a mule drawn wagon ride and enjoy live Entertainment including cloggers and country bands. Kids will enjoy the John Deere Derby, a pedal tractor trike track and farm games like apple bobbin' and corn shelling.

  • Brushy Mountain Apple Festival
    North Wilkesboro, North Carolina - October 3, 2009
    This popular annual festival, held on the first Saturday in October, attracts over 160,000 visitors and features arts and crafts, food including freshly baked fried apple pies, entertainment and more.

  • Burlington Old-Fashioned Apple Harvest Festival
    Burlington, West Virginia - October 3 - 4, 2009
    This Burlington tradition usually features three large tents filled with handmade items and a flea market, country food and an array of apple delights, all day old-fashioned apple butter making, music, a parade, fireworks, chicken, bbq and more.

  • Historic Smithfield Plantation Apple Festival
    Blacksburg, Virginia - October 3 - 4, 2009
    Enjoy the first apple harvest from the Heirloom Orchard, plus demonstrations, tours and local vendors selling apples.

  • Apple Butter Makin' Festivals
    Tyro, Virginia - October 3 and October 17, 2009
    On the first and third Saturdays of October, this more than 30 year Flippin-Seaman tradition features old-fashioned apple butter makin', pumpkin picking, games, food, crafters, a corn maze, live music and more.

  • Apple Harvest Festival at Carter Mountain Orchard
    Charlottesville, Virginia - October 3 - 4 and 10 - 11, 2009
    Carter Mountain Orchard's biggest celebration of the year features music, crafts, food, hayrides, apple butter, apple cider, apple donuts, apple pie, and all things apple.

  • Douthat State Park Apple Day - A Celebration of Appalachian Heritage
    Millboro, Virginia - October 10, 2009
    Spend a fun-filled day in the park with apple butter making, frontier games, frontier hides, campfire cooking, hayrides, traditional Appalachian artisan demonstrations, bluegrass music, clogging and great food, including a pig roast.

  • Apple Harvest Festival at Marker-Miller Orchards Farm Market
    Winchester, Virginia - October 10 - 11, 2009
    Enjoy a choice of 20 varieties of apples with pick your own options available, plus apple cobbler and apple caramel sundaes and music each day from 1 - 3 p.m. For kids, there is a cow train, antique tractors, an apple pitch and room to run. Hot dogs and country ham sandwiches may be purchased for lunch and wagon rides around the farm are scheduled throughout the day. (Also, check out the Pumpkin Festival on October 24th.)

  • Apple Butter Festival
    Berkeley Springs, West Virginia - October 10 - 11, 2009
    Enjoy good old fashioned mountain fun at this annual festival including all day apple butter baking, exhibits, vendors offering everything from traditional crafts and antiques to home canned goods and mountain cooking, a beard and mustache contest, musical entertainment, an egg toss, quilt drawing and many other fun activities.

  • Georgia Apple Festival
    Ellijay and East Ellijay, Georgia - October 10 - 11, 17 - 18, 2009
    The annual Georgia Apple Festival features over 300 vendors with handmade and hand-crafted items, as well as many on-site demonstrations, plus an antique car show, a parade and more..

  • Graves Mountain Apple Harvest Festival
    Syria, Virginia - October 10 - 11 and 17 - 18, 2009
    Enjoy good food and entertainment, including bluegrass music, cloggers, arts and crafts, hayrides and horseback riding, farm animals, watching apple butter and Brunswick Stew being cooked over an open fire. Orchards will be open for apple picking or select your own from apple bins.

  • The Mountain State Apple Harvest Festival
    Martinsburg, West Virginia - October 15 - 18, 2009
    Enjoy music and dancing plus an array of events throughout the festival, including an apple pie baking contest, parade, arts and crafts from juried crafters, food vendors, and live entertainment.

  • Taylorsville Hometown Apple Festival
    Taylorsville, North Carolina - October 17, 2009
    Always the third Saturday in October, this hometown festival features entertainment, carriage rides, a Kid's Korner, food vendors, arts and crafts, several apple contests and more.

  • Apple Butter Festival
    Hot Springs, Virginia - October 17, 2009
    This local church festival features homemade apple pies, a craft sale, auction and country gospel music.

  • Apple Dumpling Festival
    Stuart, Virginia - October 17, 2009
    Stuart's annual Apple Dumpling Festival, held in the quaint and historic downtown Depot area, features local musical entertainment, arts and crafts and lots of delicious food, including apple pies, apple butter and Stuart's famous apple dumplings.

  • Amherst County Apple Harvest Festival
    Amherst, Virginia - October 17 - 18, 2009
    Held the third Saturday and Sunday in October this festival offers everything and anything having to do with apples.
