In addition to the wonderful events in historic Old Town Alexandria listed on page 1, there are some delightful holiday festivals celebrating the season in other areas of Alexandria, Virginia:

Mount Vernon by Candlelight
November 27, 28 and 29, 2009
December 4, 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13, 2009

Tour the home of George and Martha Washington by candlelight and enjoy festive refreshments around a blazing campfire on the grounds. Tickets go on sale November 1st.

Christmas at Mount Vernon
November 27, 2009 - January 6, 2010

The Mansion is adorned with traditional fresh greenery for the holidays and festive additions this year include a dozen themed Christmas trees, a gingerbread Mount Vernon created by former White House pastry chef Ronald Mesnier, historical chocolate-making demonstrations, 18th-century dancing, and an adorable Christmas camel like the one George Washington had on the grounds during Christmas or 1787. Seasonal entertaining is authentically interpreted daily, including Christmas Day and New Year's Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Del Ray Artisans Holiday Market
December 4 - 6, 2009

Artists present and sell their arts and crafts at this holiday event held at the Del Ray Artisans Gallery, Nicholas A. Colasanto Culture Center in the Del Ray area of Alexandria.

Holiday on the Avenue
December 5, 2009

Special events take place during the day, with a holiday tree lighting at 6 p.m. at Colosanto Park, Santa and festive luminarias along Mount Vernon Avenue beginning at dusk.

Christmas In Camp Open House at Fort Ward
December 12, 2009 - Noon to 4 p.m. Weather Permitting

This holiday reenactment interprets how soldiers observed Christmas during the Civil War, including a Victorian tree and decorations, period music, soldier reenactors, soldier-guided tours, light refreshments and more. Suggested donation - $2 Adults and $1 Children. The Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site is at 4301 W. Braddock Road in Alexandria, Virginia. Telephone 703-838-4848.
