Mobile, Alabama's Mardi Gras celebration, known as America's Family Mardi Gras, offers a family friendly alternative to some of the more raucous Mardi Gras celebrations in other cities. Mobile also lays claim to America's first-known Mardi Gras Celebration, which took place in 1703. More than 30 unique Mardi Gras parades take place in historic downtown Mobile and neighboring areas for several weeks, leading up to the festive culmination on Fat Tuesday.
