The charming mountain village of Blowing Rock, North Carolina located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, celebrates winter each year with the Annual Blowing Rock Winterfest. Several special events take place during the four day festival held at the end of January, including food and wine events, entertainment, hayrides and other family fun.
On Saturday morning of Winterfest weekend, the annual Polar Plunge into icy Chetola Lake (dubbed the number one spectator sport in Blowing Rock) attracts brave and often creatively costumed participants (pictured) as well as a large crowd of enthusiastic spectators.
