A popular South Carolina Midlands holiday tradition, Lights Before Christmas presented at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden in Columbia is on now and continues on scheduled days through December 30. Featuring almost one million twinkling lights, handcrafted displays, animated images and nightly snowfalls, Lights Before Christmas celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2012 as one of the longest running and largest holiday events in the state. This year, guests have an opportunity to walk inside a life sized snow globe and have the chance to name a penguin. If you are planning a visit, remember to pack a camera for photos with Santa and don't forget to wear a hat to stay warm when it snows. Hot cocoa and toasted marshmallows at the Jingle Bell Bonfire add to the festive fun.
