Fall brings the oyster season to the Southeast U.S. and the annual Urbanna Oyster Festival offers a delicious way to dive into the season. Designated by the General Assembly of Virginia as the official Oyster Festival of the Commonwealth, the Urbanna Oyster Festival attracts oyster lovers from near and far. Urbanna, which is one of the oldest towns in America, is located along the Rappahannock River in Virginia's Tidewater region about 60 miles southeast of Richmond.

Besides having plenty of delectable oysters (raw, roasted, fried, smoked, steamed, in fritters or in stews), there are ample other food options including clams, crabs, shrimp, hamburgers, hot dogs, roast beef and more for visitors who have not discovered the wonders of the oyster. On Friday evening, festival-goers may enjoy a traditional Fireman's Parade and on Saturday, the Oyster Festival Parade features marching bands, community floats and more. Also popular with festival-goers, a variety of arts and crafts booths offer many handmade items in the Urbanna Oyster Festival Village. A wine tasting event features local wineries and boutique oyster samplings.

The dates for the 2011 Urbanna Oyster Festival are November 4th and 5th. For additional information, visit the Urbanna Oyster Festival Website and for other fun pre-holiday things to do in the Southeast during November, visit November Festivals and Events.
