Alexandria Red Cross Waterfront Festival - Virginia
Wednesday June 10, 2009
Bring Your Dad, Bring Your Dog, Bring the Whole Family - Now in its 28th year, the Annual Alexandria Red Cross Waterfront Festival has grown from a small picnic into one of Northern Virginia's most popular summer events. Held each year during Father’s Day weekend, the festival takes place at Oronoco Bay Park at the northern end of Union Street on the Old Town Alexandria, Virginia waterfront. Street parking is extremely limited and visitors are encouraged to travel by Metro if possible.
A 10K / 5K Festival Road Race kicks things off on Saturday morning. Family-friendly festival activities include rides, entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, a special Children’s Harbor Tent, food vendors, visiting tall ship Gazela Primeiro and more. And for Rover, a special dog zone at the Festival Pier features an American Red Cross Pet First Aid demonstration, dog contests, dog water stations and several dog vendors. Adults, age 21 and older, will enjoy a chance to relax along the waterfront enjoying a glass of wine or beer in the Wine Garden. Saturday night fireworks cap off the evening.
The dates for the 2009 Alexandria Red Cross Waterfront Festival are June 20 and 21. For festival details, visit the Alexandria Red Cross Waterfront Festival Web Site. To find out about other fun June festivals throughout the Southeast, visit June Festivals, Celebrations and Special Events.
