Roan Mountain - Tennessee Rhododendron Festival

The 63rd annual Roan Mountain Tennessee Rhododendron Festival takes place on Saturday, June 20, 2009 from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 21, 2009 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Roan Mountain State Park in the amphitheater and swimming pool area. Festival highlights include handmade crafts, traditional music, old-time folkway demonstrations and, of course, plenty of festival food. Roan Mountain, located in the northern section of Cherokee National Forest along the Tennessee and North Carolina border, is home to the largest known natural display of blooming rhododendron shrubs in the world. The Roan Mountain Rhododendron Gardens cover approximately 600 acres and during the peak blooming season, usually mid to late June, visitors arrive by the thousands to enjoy the stunning magenta hued gardens and vistas.
