Britt's Donuts - Carolina Beach, North Carolina

Friday June 5, 2009
Today is National Donut Day and therefore a perfect time to mention the best doughnuts I have ever tasted. If you have been to Carolina Beach, North Carolina, you probably already know about Britt's Donuts, a favorite of locals and regular visitors on the Carolina Beach Boardwalk. And, if not, I highly recommend a stop, or two or more during your next Carolina Beach stay. See my review and add your own review.

Now, back to National Donut Day for a minute...I have to admit that I have never heard of National Donut Day before this year, but according to the Salvation Army the idea originated many years ago during World War I. Salvation Army workers, in an effort to help raise morale of the fighting soldiers, brought doughnuts and coffee to the trenches of the battlefields of France. Later, the Chicago Salvation Army started a Donut Day fundraising effort, designating the first Friday in June as National Donut Day.

And, if you haven't already picked up a free doughnut today, you might want to swing by one of the participating stores (Krispy Kreme Donuts, Dunkin' Donuts and LaMar's Donuts).
