Stone Mountain Park Predicts Over Eight Weeks of Deep Snow

Thursday December 11, 2008
Following the annual holiday festivities, Stone Mountain Park's new Snow Mountain opens for weekends, beginning on New Year's Eve Day 2008. Transforming the large Laser Lawn into a family snow park, Snow Mountain's signature attraction is an eleven lane, 400-foot long tubing hill. For more wintry fun, a SnowZone features play areas in at least two feet of snow. SnowZone activities include snowman making, snowball fun, a sliding hill for toddlers and a bonfire for warming up and enjoying delicious, gooey s'mores.

Snow Mountain opens during the day on December 31, 2008 and plans to be open on weekends through March 1, 2008. Tickets will be sold in two hour sessions and advance tickets are recommended to make the most out of your allotted session. Snow Mountain is open to all ages, although you must be at least 42 inches tall to be admitted to the tubing hill.

Snow Mountain snow is created using a closed loop system of water obtained from Stone Mountain Lake and processed to a potable standard. Melted snow is returned to the lake via storm line drainage and no municipal water is used. In addition, Stone Mountain Park purchases green energy credits for the production power.

(1) Rodriguez Family - Mountain Members says:

Snow mountain was a complete rip off. Our family booked a 7 day vacation with the Evergreen in early November. We order our snow tickets that time too. There were 11 lanes and the mountain over sold the tickets. They could only accomodate 1/4 of the tickets sold. We stood in line for 2 1/2 hours to ride the tube 2 times. It was a day of tears. The kids were looking forward to smores by the fire. The tent was there but it was never opened. Another disappointment. We tried to find a manager to discuss these matters with but the employees didn’t even know who they reported it or who was in charge. The mountain needs to work on their organizational skills and customer relations. At the present they have neither. Our family will not renew our mountain membership again.

Dear Rodriguez Family,
Thank you for being snow pioneers and visiting Stone Mountain Park’s Snow Mountain. We are very sorry for your frustration. We were working hard to live up to our mission of “creating memories worth repeating” but as Snow Mountain is an attraction that has never been done before, we know everything was not perfect. In regards to the s’more pits, the Fire Martial would not let us open them because of the wind. However, we should have had signage up relaying the information to our guests. Also, our employees unaware of a manager on duty is unacceptable and is being addressed. Again my apologies for the miscomunication. I hope you will give us another opportunity to make good on our promise. Please contact me at publicrelations@stonemountainpark.com.

Regards,
Kelley

Please accept my apology as I realized after I clicked send on my last comment that I misspelled “Fire Marshal” and “miscommunication”.
