The Pentagon Memorial

Wednesday August 27, 2008
In remembrance of the events of September 11, 2001, the Pentagon Memorial honors the 184 people whose lives were lost at the Pentagon and on American Airlines Flight 77, their families and all those who sacrifice that we may live in freedom.

During the tragic events of September 11, 2001, 184 lives were lost in an instant at the Pentagon, located in Arlington, Virginia. The design for a Memorial Park, to be dedicated to the victims of the attack, was selected in 2003 from over 1000 entries. Following a Dedication Ceremony earlier in the day for invited guests only, the Pentagon Memorial will open to the public at 7 p.m. on September 11, 2008. The Navy Band and the Sea Chanters Chorus will perform a musical tribute from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. on an adjacent stage in honor of the public opening.
